Between the Zaprikraj and Predolina Mountain Pastures there are well-preserved, cleaned and partly renovated positions of the first Italian defence line. The remains, such as firing trenches, dark caverns, artillery positions for cannons and mortars, the remains of shacks and the renovated memorial silently testify to the horrors which raged in this area during World War I.
The positions of the first Italian defence line on Krn Mountain Range, where the bloody battles of the Isonzo Front used to take place, are today part of the Walk of Peace from the Alps to the Adriatic.
If you want to be active while visiting the Zaprikraj Outdoor Museum (1,259 m), take the time for a one day trip and go sightseeing partly by bicycle or on foot. In summer season you can treat yourself to homemade Tolminc Cheese and cottage cheese from the Zaprikraj Mountain Pasture.
Zaprikraj Outdoor Museum – ACCESS TO THE OUTDOOR MUSEUM
By car from Kobarid to Drežnica village and then to Drežniške Ravne (7 km). Turn right at the crossroads in front of the built-up area of Drežniške Ravne. At the end of the asphalt there is a parking area. Continue on foot along the macadam route to the Zapleč and Zaprikraj Mountain Pastures (5 km). By the border of Triglav National Park it will take you another 30 minutes of an easy paced walk along the macadam route to get to the outdoor museum. The remains of the first Italian defence line are on both sides of the macadam route next to the split of the forest path and the path to the Predolina Mountain Pasture.
