Dr. Julius Kugy, a lawyer by profession, was an excellent mountaineer, a mountain writer and particularly a great lover of the alpine world and the beauties of the remote Trenta Valley. With the help of local mountain guides, he was the first to climb many peaks of the Julian Alps. His special passion was the search for the mysterious flower Scabiosa trenta, which later proved a mystification.
This majestic bronze figure, dedicated to dr. Julius Kugy, the discoverer and researcher of the Julian Alps, tells a story about the love for the mountains and the search for the mysterious flower Scabiosa trenta.
The dr. Julius Kugy Monument lies at the foothill of the Vršič pass, in the shelter of the most beautiful Slovenian mountains, staring at the astonishing Jalovec, which had a special place in Kugy’s heart.
