Nježna hiša - a unique Slovenian-Venetian building type
Nježna hiša in Jevšček displays a unique building identity and presents the way of past life on the Westernmost Slovenian border.
According to the oral tradition, Nježna hiša is the oldest building in the village of Jevšček. Its last inhabitants, Jožefa Matelič (born in 1894, married Zabreščak) and her nephew Janko Tončerinov, lived there until the middle of the 20th century. Due to their modest life and lack of funds for reconstruction, the house is now a valuable document of the past.
The Architecture of Nježna hiša
The interior of Nježna hiša perfectly exhibits the living conditions in the 19th century. It is a ground floor house with a lengthwise layout and it is made of stone. The facades are plastered with lime and the roof is thatched.
The basement consists of a piggery and a henhouse and has a storage room for tools. The ground floor consists of living quarters with a smoke kitchen. A furnace stands in the corner of the room, decorated with burnt clay tiles and surrounded by a simple wood bench. There are two bedrooms on the ground floor, above which an attic for storing the crops is situated.
