The tour along the outdoor museum runs across the quiet and unspoiled forest areas of the hill Mengore.
Take a walk in the calm and untouched forest areas of the Mengore hill (453 m) above Tolmin. The museum path follows the trenches, caverns, memorials and the remains of the stony walls of the shacks and other remains of the first Austro-Hungarian defence line, where the sound of guns used to resonate and the lives of young soldiers were put to an end.
After 29 months of continuous bombardment during World War I, the positions on Mengore also played a decisive role in the 12th battle of the Isonzo Front (The Miracle of Kobarid), when the Austro-Hungarian soldiers pushed the Italian soldiers all the way to the River Piava.
On top of Mengore stands a small church of the Virgin Mary with a beaufitul view over the River Soča and the Julian Alps. Mengore Outdoor Museum is part of the Walk of Peace from the Alps to the Adriatic, which connects the remains of World War I.
Mengore Outdoor Museum – ACCESS TO THE OUTDOOR MUSEUM
2 km out of Most na Soči in the direction of Nova Gorica, is the Poljance Pass, the starting point for visiting the Mengore Outdoor Museum. A parking lot has been arranged on the pass and an information label.
