Vrsno carnival

15. 2. 2026 / 14:00 / Vrsno

The village of Vrsno has a long tradition of carnival celebrations. The villagers have always dressed up and organized carnival parades, but after the end of World War II, carnival celebrations here completely died out for a long time. In recent decades, young people, with the help of their elders, have revived it, thus rescuing an important part of the local intangible cultural heritage from oblivion.

As in the surrounding villages, the carnival characters here are divided into the so-called Ta lepe (the beautiful ones) and Ta grde (the ugly ones). The main representatives of the former are the Čuške, while the negative side of the carnival ritual is represented by the Pstje. The Čuške wear black trousers, a white shirt, and a jacket or reklc, which is sewn with colorful crocheted flowers and čuškami made of crepe paper. The headgear they wear is also richly decorated. They move from house to house in an orderly procession, led by the procession leader and his assistant, who carry a whistle and a stick. They are followed by an accordionist, then by gift collectors and several pairs of Čušk.

You are all invited!
