High above the town of Tolmin, more than 1,000 m above the sea level, you can find Astra Montana, a former shepherd's pen which was turned into a charming holiday chalet according to the guidelines of sustainable tourism. On the basis of the EU Ecolabel, this holiday chalet obtained the Slovenia Green Accommodation label which was awarded in 2019 by the Slovenian Tourist Board.
This remote holiday accommodation located on the outskirts of the Triglav National Park is completely self-sufficient. Its owners try to impact the environment as little as possible. The house itself is energy-efficient and includes fireplace and underfloor heating and solar panels for the supply of electricity. Drinking water comes from a nearby spring, whilst rain water is also collected and then filtered and disinfected. At the chalet, guests are offered home-made locally-produced food and can use a composting system designed for organic waste. Owners of the chalet seek out ways to recycle other waste and decrease its volume and also encourage guests to do the same. All cleaning takes place with the help of natural cleaning products.
The house was designed in two levels. The first floor includes two bedrooms with marvellous views, whilst the ground floor includes rooms adapted to people with disabilities. The chalet can accommodate up to 10 persons if additional beds are used.
Astra Montana is an ideal place for all who love tranquillity and wonderful mountain environment. The surrounding area of the chalet is inviting to hikers, cyclists, skiers and paragliding pilots.
